You grew up in a neighborhood with some pretty decent singers, didn’t you?

But they’re just other people who sing! Aretha was a chick who had a
real high voice and sung in her father’s church. I can’t think of them
as being legendary. I’ve seen most of them broke, drunk or naked — or
all three.
