Sept. 4, 1888: Photography Leaps Into the Late 19th Century
1888 George Eastman receives a patent for the first roll-film camera and registers the name “Kodak.”
What he would think of the about digital photography? He was right that everybody would take photographs one day but I don’t think he envisioned the world of camera phones and paparazzi. I love snapshop photography but it’s certainly generated a plethora of crappy images.
Personally, I’m glad that roll-film is still available even though it is a great polluter. I still have at least 5 roll-film cameras including two “brownies” with movable bellows that use 120 size film.

I am really enjoying my Nikon D70. Post-processing can allow you to have some of that artistic touch that might have poured into setting up or capturing a film shot. Also, I find that I take 100 shots of the same thing because I don’t quite get it right. But I don’t think you are talking about photographers like me… 🙂
I can’t stand many things about cell phones – here in Paris there is this trend of people playing music on their cell phone on the train or the metro. The sound quality is sooo bad and we are all forced to listen to it for the length of our ride or theirs. Is that happening in DC?

I have to say that digital photography has changed my phototaking drastically, too. There feels like so much waste as I look through my iphoto graveyard of not so great photos! But the ones that I’m pleased with are really quality photos and worthy of the paper to print them on. I’ve been sifting through old family photos (both sides) to create a photo display at home. The printed photos are precious. That permanent record that others can see and hold needs to continue…. by the way I fell in love with the photo you took of Sarah when she was 9 in black and white, holding a camera .

While I’ve embraced digital photography, I am a Luddite in that I still shoot chrome. Medium format.
